Most Americans are almost totally disgusted by their elected representatives - they feel a change is needed.

After the economic collapse in 2008, Wall Street was made whole but Main Street was not. Almost five year later, the unemployment rolls are still too high and homes are still being foreclosed. Clearly, full recovery will a long and painful one. However, the recovery will still not solve America's most pressing problem, which is how on earth is it going to pay its way in the world?

America has piled up a mountain of debt and put itself into the positon of being a distressed creditor.
The financial/business model, under which the US has been operating since World War II, has failed. Once again, as in the 1930's depression, the country has had to resort to Keynesian economic policies. The free market - free trade ideology is one of many American myths; the reality is closer to oligopoly capitalism at home and cartel arrangements overseas. Such arrangements suit the elite that fund the political class in Washington, but have had devastating consequences for the future of America. In effect, the ruling elite has sabotaged the future of America for its own enrichment.

The author hopes that, in reading this book, Americans will come to understand what went wrong and why the various solutions he proposes make sense.  Something has to change if America is to get back on track; the status quo will no longer do. America's politicians seem to be in a state of denial and the public has a right to be angry at those who fiddle while Rome is burning.
